Kohima is the capital of Nagaland. The Diocese is named after the capital of the State. Nagaland is in the Northeastern corner of India, bordering Myanmar. There are 16 principal tribes. Collectively they are known as Naga Tribes. They have linguistic and dialectal variations that are different from one another. Nagaland and Manipur were part of the Diocese of Dibrugarh. Kohima village'called 'Bara Basti'or 'large village',which is the second largest village in Asia forms the northeastern part of Kohima urban area today.
